Overview: NASA makes actual lunar samples from the historic Apollo missions available to lend to teachers. You must attend this certification workshop to bring the excitement of real lunar rocks and regolith samples to your students. JPL EDUCATION / WORKSHOPS City of Downey Columbia Memorial Space Center Presents: Teacher Workshop: Robotics Date: Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., plus Challenger Learning Center Mission Simulation: "Voyage to Mars" from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Target Audience: Pre-service and credentialed teachers for grades 5 and above Location: Columbia Memorial Space Center, Downey, California Overview: Did you know we talk to Mars robots every day? Discover how animals inspire engineers who build robots, see how we use robotics today and look into the future of robotics for space, medicine and more. Lunch is provided. All Three NASA Mars Orbiters Healthy After Comet Flyby

LATEST NEWS All Three NASA Mars Orbiters Healthy After Comet Flyby All three NASA orbiters around Mars confirmed their healthy status Sunday after each took shelter behind Mars during a period of risk from dust released by a passing comet. Mars Odyssey, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) orbiter all are part of a campaign to study comet C/2013 A1 Siding Spring and possible effects on the Martian atmosphere from gases and dust released by the comet. The comet sped past Mars today much closer than any other know comet flyby of a planet. Attend Earth Mission Pre-Launch Educator Conference

 

JPL EDUCATION - WORKSHOPS 'Soil Moisture Active Passive' Mission Pre-Launch Educator Conference Date: Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Target Audience: Elementary, middle and high school science educators (but all are welcome) Location: NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., Von Karman Auditorium Overview: Come learn from the experts how NASA plans to monitor soil moisture and freeze/thaw cycles from space using its Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) spacecraft scheduled to launch in January. Learn about the engineering used in designing this amazing spacecraft as well as the science it is designed to accomplish. Return to your classroom with an understanding of the big picture of how we explore Earth from space and how that information impacts our lives. Please call the NASA/JPL Educator Resource Center at 818-393-5917 to reserve your spot. The deadline to register is October 24, 2015. There is no registration fee for this event.
